Celluloid dreams in post-Cannes sales

PARIS—Sales firm Celluloid Dreams announced Tuesday the sales of several films after the Festival de Cannes.

Fresh from the success of his “8 Women,” Francois Ozon finds that his “Swimming Pool” (in production) has been picked up in 11 countries, including Japan (Gaga Communications) and Germany (Delphi), with negotiations pending in several countries including the United States, United Kingdom and Spain.

“Le Fils” (The Son), the dark drama directed by Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne for which Olivier Gourmet won the award for best male performance at Cannes, has been picked up in 12 countries, including Italy (Lucky Red), Spain (Vertigo), France (Diaphana) and the U.K. (Artificial Eye), with negotiations pending in the U.S.

Jia Zhang-ke’s Competition entry, “Unknown Pleasures,” has been acquired in eight countries including the U.K. (Artificial Eye) and France (Ad Vitam), and negotiations are ongoing in Italy, Spain and the U.S.

“Russian Ark,” In Competition at Cannes and directed by Alexander Sokurov, has been sold to nine countries including Italy (Mikado), Japan (NHK), the U.K. (Artificial Eye) and Germany (Delphi). Celluloid Dreams is in negotiations in the U.S, Spain and France.

Amos Gitai’s “Kedma”, also In Competition, has been bought in six countries including France (Mars Films) and Italy (Bim), while negotiations continue in the U.S., Japan, the U.K. and Australia.

From Un Certain Regard, Tajikistan director Djamshed Usmonov’s “Angel on the Right” has been picked up by the U.K. (Metro Tartan), the Netherlands (NFM), France (Haut et Court) and Italy (Raj Cinema).

Three other Celluloid Dreams films also have landed deals. Sylvian Chomet’s “Les Triplettes de Belleville,” a film in postproduction, has been picked up in nine countries, Takeshi Kitano’s “Dolls” has found a home in seven, and Jean-Pierre Limosin’s “Novo” has secured deals in 14 territories.

Deals have been negotiated and closed for Celluloid Dreams by company founder Hengameh Panahi and execs Pierre Menahem and Tanja Meissner.
