November 8, 2002 - The Hollywood Reporter

PARIS— Studio Canal subsidiary, Les Films Alain Sarde, said Thursday that it and French indie, Les Films du Losange, have agreed to separate production responsibilities on two upcoming Michael Haneke (“The Piano Teacher”) films.

They were both due to share co-production credits on Haneke’s “Une Histoire d’Enfant” (formerly “Le Temps des Loups”) and the Juliette Binoche-Daniel Auteuil starrer “Cache” (Hidden).

Although key executives could not be reached for the details before press time, a spokesperson for Alain Sarde said that it will now take charge of “Cache” alone, while Losange will produce “Histoire.”

The spokesperson added that the budget for “Cache” has been set at €6.8 million ($6.8 million) with shooting due to begin in France in July. The intention is to bow the movie at Cannes in 2004. It will be distributed by Mars Films.

“Cache” features Auteuil and Binoche as a literary couple, Georges and Anne, in a film about the consequences of Algeria’s war for independence from France. The duo will be joined by actor Maurice Benichou (“Amelie”).

“Une Histoire d’Enfant,” which is in postproduction, tells the story of a woman leading her children on a journey of survival through a post-apocalyptic landscape. The film stars Isabelle Huppert, Beatrice Dalle and Patrice Chereau.
